Denmark proved today in the Polish capital of Warsaw that they the leading badminton nation in Europe. Both the Danish women’s and men’s teams took the gold after medals after beating Russia (3-2) and Poland (3-0) respectively.
Germany won the two bronze medals – and the six mentioned teams will therefore be representing Europe at the 2010 Thomas & Uber Cup finals in Malaysia in May.

The Danish men’s team followed their female compatriots into yet another European team final with yet another whitewash. A 3-0 victory over Germany tonight sets the Danes up for another European title and no one would bet against another whitewash en route to gold.
The opponent in the final will the home team Poland who won a 5-match thriller against Ukraine to reach the final.

Denmark advanced, as expected, to tomorrows European Women’s team final but only after a mid match scare as Juhl and Frier were toppled by number 1 German pairing Overzier and Marinello in 2 straight sets. Helle Nielsen and Marie Ropke took the decisive win.
Russia will be the opponent in the final after they ran a young Dutch team in the other semi final.

The German men’s team booked their semi-final spot against tournament favourites Denmark tonight after a marathon match against Russia. Meanwhile Ukraine were easy winners over a weakened Dutch team to advance to a semi-final showdown with the home favourites Poland.

Russia’s strength in depth was all too evident on court in the first of the ladies' quarter-finals as they sealed a comfortable 3-0 win to advance to tomorrow’s semi- final. Germany will face arch rivals Denmark in the semi final after beating Bulgaria 3-0.
